In his video work “The Layers We See”, Nikolai Gümbel explores the urban planning dimension of the large-scale Freiham project and its structural conditions. The film is based on the archaeological excavations that took place in Freiham prior to construction work and prove that the area around Freiham has been inhabited for around 6,000 years. In dealing with this historical dimension, a look at present and future life in the newly designed district is to be taken.
Three video sections are being created in parallel with the progress of the construction project. The first section, “Excavation and Model”, has been presented in the exhibition “Global Munich. In Perspective” on 21 June at Habibi Kiosk of the Munich Kammerspiele.
Workshops : In cooperation with the Freiham Education Campus, the workshops “Freiham Site” for free will be held, in which children and young people can try out their own film approaches. The workshop is organized by Opernkollektiv Diva, consisting of Samuel Fischer-Glaser, Nikolai Gümbel, Sophie Schmidt and Angela Stiegler: “We will deal with the excavations in Freiham and build a cinematic portal from the past into the future.”
