For “Possible Spaces”, Nina Annabelle Märkl has translated the striking shapes and lines of the existing spatial lines and visual axes into two ink drawings from two different viewpoints on Lenbachplatz – once from the fountain towards Stachus, and once from the narrowest point of the island looking back towards the fountain. The billboard serves as a focal point where the lines, representing the course of the street or architectural features, converge.
The resulting drawings are folded and superimposed in such a way that one retains the original direction of view, while the other shows the viewer’s perspective and the entire spatial situation at an angle. The overall graphic composition now shows Lenbachplatz in an abstract way, inviting the viewer to (re)discover it spatially, to engage in a game between two- and three-dimensional observation.
Nina Annabelle Märkl, born in 1979 in Dachau, lives and works in Munich.
