In the summer of 2017, arrangements of tropical plants and sculptural works grow in the centre of Munich. Under the title “no such things grow here”, Munich artist Susi Gelb stages a visual expedition through unknown and forgotten secrets of the natural and animal world at Odeonsplatz, Max-Joseph-Platz and Lenbachplatz. Tropical plants, intelligent materials and hybrid formations merge into an urban biosphere.
Susi Gelb transforms the Kunst-Insel (art island) at Lenbachplatz into a banana plantation, complete with an albino python that swims across the five-by-five-metre display, oscillating between natural and artificial colour changes.
Susi Gelb, born in 1985 in Bad Tölz, lives and works in Berlin and Munich.
