For the presentation at Lenbachplatz, Stephan Dillemuth had his 2007 “Selbstportrait als blauer Akt” (“Self-Portrait as a Blue Nude”) enlarged to a five-by-five-metre digital print and placed the word ‘Success’ in the centre of the picture. The painting was inspired by a picture description from Lion Feuchtwanger’s 1930 novel ‘Success’, which Dillemuth interprets as referring to a 1911 painting by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner entitled ‘Nude on a Blue Background’ (now in the Buchheim Collection). Dillemuth, in turn, based his own self-portrait on this painting, giving the nude his own features.
Stephan Dillemuth, born in 1954 in Büdingen, lives and works in Bad Wiessee.
