“The Rumford Laboratory” by Yvonne Leinfelder and Alix Stadtbäumer is an interdisciplinary art project in public space that takes an artistic approach to the person of Count Rumford and his innovative approaches to reform. It commemorates the 200th anniversary of the death of the inventor and reformer Sir Benjamin Thompson (26 March 1753 to 21 August 1814), known in Munich as “Count Rumford”, with numerous artistic contributions at various locations in Munich such as the billboard motif by Martin Fengel. Among other things, Count Rumford popularised the potato as a foodstuff and laid out the English Garden in Munich.
Martin Fengel, born in 1964 in Munich, lives and works in Munich.
